After submitting my application, I learned that I have been granted funding for the same project from another source. What should I do?
Congratulations for receiving funding!
Please, contact us by email without delay if you have received overlapping grants or funding. Also. let us know how it overlaps with the grant or project funding you have applied from us.
Can I apply for a grant or a project grant from the Foundation if I have been awarded a grant in the previous application round?
We can fund the same creator or project multiple times consequently. However, we cannot award a working grant for the same period for which you have already received another working grant from the Foundation or another provider.
Can I apply for a grant retroactively? How do I know which period to apply for?
A grant cannot be applied retroactively. You cannot apply funding for a time that starts before the specified grant period. Please, check the Use of grant on the Grants for music creators page on our website for the period of use of the grant before accessing the application form.
Can I apply for a working grant for several different projects or works?
During the grand period, you can plan to work on several different projects or works as long as your work focuses on creative music making, such as composition, lyric writing or arranging. Please note that we do not award grants for regular performances or tours or publishing costs of recordings.
Can I apply funding to organise a concert or a festival?
We award grants to creative music making and for music creators. We do not provide production funding for festivals or concerts. A composer can apply for a working grant when a work is to be premiered at a festival or event, or for musicians’ fees for a performance they organise themselves when that is the only means to get the work performed.
Can I present my project and discuss the application with you in advance?
We prefer to handle application related questions primarily via email. As a rule, we will arrange any meetings after the application has been submitted. Should questions arise about your application during the evaluation process or we need further information, we will contact you.
Can I use part of the working grant for the costs of creative work, and how does this affect the period and the months when the grant has to be used?
You can use up to 50% of the working grant for the costs of creative work. For example, if you apply for the €32,000 working grant and plan to use half of it for expenses, €16,000 remains too be used for working. You can divide the remaining working grant to six months (full-time work) or 12 months (50% part-time work).
When you calculate for how many months you want to divide the working grant, use the following method: €32,000 / 12 months = €2,666.67 per month. For example, if you want to use €10,000 of the total €32,000 amount for expenses, you are left with €22,000 for working. That corresponds to approximately eight months of working time.
Can I withdraw my application?
Yes, you can. To withdraw your application, log in to our online service and select the application. You will find your application draft on the home page under “Current applications”. Click on “Delete”. If you are unable to delete your application, it is already under processing. In that case, please, contact us by email to request cancellation.
Can you assess whether I can apply for / have a chance of receiving a grant or funding for my project?
Our website contains information on what grants we award and the types of projects we fund. Our experts and Board make funding decisions on an application-by-application basis. We do not make advance case-by-case evaluations regarding the likelihood of receiving funding.
Do I need to include recommendations?
We do not need or require recommendations for any grants.
In which language should I submit my application?
You are free to choose one of our three supported languages: Finnish, English or Swedish. The choice of language does not affect the success of your application.
I submitted an application via the online service but I need to make changes. Can I update the application or add attachments?
You can make changes to your application within 24 hours of submission.
I was not awarded an individual grant or funding for my project. Can I resubmit the same application?
We review all grant and project grant applications carefully. If your grant or project grant application has been evaluated and you have received a negative funding decision, we do not recommend to resubmit the same application. Please note that we do not provide justifications for our decisions.
What do you mean with near top-level? Does this mean that only creators of hit music receive grants?
The Foundation Board has made the strategic decision to direct grants to creators near the top-level of music making to increase the artistic and financial value of Finnish music. It is our goal to broaden and diversify the top of professional Finnish music making, and help works and creators to reach audiences in Finland and abroad.
A near top-level music creator works ambitiously and consistently within their genre and needs support to reach the next level. Whatever that means to each individual creator. Such a creator has already accrued income from music, has recognized results and is known within their genre among audiences and colleagues.
Why do you collect statistical data?
We collect data about applicants for statistical purposes and to develop our operations. The statistical questions have no effect on grant decisions. We collect data to better understand who applies for our grants now and in the future to be able to improve our communications and application forms if necessary. It is our goal to reach as many professional music creators as possible regardless of their background or circumstances.
Why do you need income information? Does this mean that only the most successful creators receive funding?
Income is one indicator to evaluate if the applicant is on a professional level as a music creator and if they have worked consistently to advance their career. We take into consideration that income can vary greatly depending on the genre or the applicant’s background and circumstances. We aim to support professional music creators who, based on their application, demonstrate clear planning and for whom the moment is right.
