Our aim is to do everything in the best possible way. We learn, develop and evolve along the way, moving up one step at a time. Together with operators in the field of Finnish music, we build a diverse cycle of positivity that ensures peaceful working conditions for music creators and elevates the value of Finnish music.
Our values
Our actions are guided by our values: diversity, long-term commitment, open-mindedness and initiative.
Our logo: a rare and deliberate whole rest
Creative work is demanding, and the creative process is unique for each creator. It involves sacrifice, sweat, joy, insight, logic and emotion. The paradox of creativity in today’s world is the need and pressure to create and grow by any means necessary. But from where do new human ideas, creativity and innovation draw their real power? Our logo represents the importance of creative peace in the form of a modified whole rest symbol; a daily reminder of the importance of leaving space for creativity.
Our strategy
Our goal is to increase both the artistic and economic value of Finnish music with the following strategic choices:
- We focus our grants primarily on music creators near the top-level of Finnish music-making. Our grants allow composers, lyricists and arrangers to focus on creative work and to reach a next level in their craft and career.
- We fund projects that support renewal and diversity at a highest level of creating music.
- We support projects that strengthen structures, promote the exposure of professional music creators and their works, and reaching audiences in Finland and internationally.
Funding
The Foundation is funded by the Teosto Fund, established in 2009, to ensure the continuity of promoting creative composing. Teosto Fund’s assets originate from the sale of Teosto’s property (such as the office building and land in Lauttasaari) and from national funds. The assets have further increased through long-term investments in diverse investment categories.
Teosto donated approximately 10 million Euros from the Fund as the initial capital for the Foundation. The intention is to increase this initial capital with additional transfers of investment assets from the Fund based on decisions made by Teosto’s Annual General Meeting. As the Foundation’s founder, Teosto wants the capital of the Foundation to be actively increased to secure long-term support to Finnish music and its creators.
