The Foundation funding
The Teosto Cultural Foundation is one of Finland’s most significant supporters of creative music. The Finnish Composers’ Copyright Society Teosto established the Foundation and donated some €40 million in investment assets. Our work is made possible by a strong financial foundation based on the investment made by Teosto and the responsible management of these assets.
Our grants, project funding and associated administrative costs are financed through returns on the Foundation’s invested capital and other funds received.
Leaving a bequest to the Foundation
A bequest to the Teosto Cultural Foundation is a meaningful way to invest in Finnish music and its creators.
While a bequest is made to the Foundation, all donated funds will always directly reach the recipients of our grants. Our grants benefit:
- Professional music creators, such as composers, lyricists or arrangers.
- Professionals or organisations that promote creators or works and help build audiences, such as music publishers or exporters.
- Organisations whose projects promote Finnish music and the operating conditions of its creators, and seek to increase the creative and/or economic value of Finnish music.
The Foundation does not accumulate or invest funds for its own benefit. Rather, it works to create opportunities and success for new Finnish music and creators. It also seeks to increase the creative and economic value of Finnish music in Finland and abroad.
Making a will
Making a will and deciding how to distribute your assets are deeply personal matters. Your own circumstances, wishes and values are the basis for these decisions.
For some, it is a way to support a cause close to their heart. For others, it is an opportunity to leave something lasting behind or to give back for all the good they have received. Every bequest has its own story. Each one is valuable.
The Teosto Cultural Foundation as a recipient of bequests or donations
According to its statutes, the Foundation can accept bequests and donations.
However, the Foundation does not solicit or encourage donations. Under the Finnish Money Collection Act, appealing to the public for donations requires a permit and compliance with the relevant legal obligations. A donation made on the donor’s own initiative, without a request or solicitation from the recipient, does not constitute as money collection and is therefore permitted. Additionally, the Act does not apply to appeals to the public to acquire property through last wills and bequests.
According to Chapter 1, Section 2 of the Finnish Inheritance and Gift Law, the Foundation is not liable for inheritance or gift tax.
The Teosto Cultural Foundation has submitted on August 20, 2026 an application to the Tax Administration to be designated as an eligible recipient of tax-deductible donations. This means that an organisation making a donation to the Foundation can deduct €850 to €50,000 from its taxable income. The Tax Administration has not yet issued its decision.
For the time being, private individuals do not have the right to deduct tax on donations they make.
